Ex-nurse, trained herbalist and comedian Gemma Barry’s life ambition is to help rid the world of painful periods. After 15 years as a nurse in busy London hospitals, she became disillusioned and knew that there had to be another way to maintain health.
After finally receiving a diagnosis of endometriosis, and feeling unimpressed with the options available through mainstream routes, Gemma began her own research. This led her down a rabbit hole of women’s health, and she became a qualified herbalist, abdominal massage therapist and mindfulness teacher.
Her unique understanding of both traditional and holistic medicine allows her to understand how a woman’s body works and what options we have to improve our health and wellbeing.
She now works as a menstrual health coach through Well Woman Project, where she aims to give women the knowledge and confidence to challenge traditional health methods and listen to their own bodies.
Gemma has appeared in Scary Mommy, In the Moment Magazine and Mind Body Green, and runs the podcast Lost in Menstruation. She has also produced a live hour-long comedy/ edu-tainment show called Flaps of Steel.
