Floating World Comics is an independent publisher of international, avant-garde, and genre comics and graphic novels. Our publications are an exciting extension of our bookstore, which has been operating at the heart of contemporary comics for over twelve years. With a focus on a unique, curated selection of the most outstanding comics from around the world, we bring new voices to the forefront.
As a retailer, we pride ourselves on carrying an inventory of obscure and rare titles alongside mainstream selections and curated volumes of cutting-edge graphic art and design books. In this spirit, we began publishing in 2008, first with underground art papers and zines and then moving into bound books and hardcover volumes. The same curated selection that has made Floating World a worldwide destination for comic lovers is reflected in the books we choose to publish.
Over our history, we have developed relationships with the vanguard of the small press and underground comics community. This puts us in a unique position to connect with exciting new voices and share them with larger audiences. Our familiarity with mainstream sales gives us an understanding of trends and pop culture. There is room in that market for true auteurs and artists to thrive as well; as we have seen time and again that the mainstream often springs from underground.
