Manic D Press was founded by Jennifer Joseph in 1984 as an alternative outlet for young writers seeking to bring their work into print. An award-winning literary press based in San Francisco—publishing fiction (novels and short stories), poetry, art, narrative-oriented comix, and alternative travel trade paperbacks—Manic D Press represents a diverse, balanced group of unique writers and artists, with emphasis on those who have been shunned by the traditional publishing establishment for lacking commercial viability, regardless of their talent or future promise. Awards presented to Manic D Press include the 2000 American Library Association GLBT Award for Literature, the 1997 Firecracker Alternative Book Award for Art, the 2002 and 2000 Firecracker Alternative Book Awards for Fiction, AIGA 50 Books/50 Covers 1998, October 2003 and April 2004 Booksense 76 picks, and The San Francisco Bay Guardian’s 2004 Best of the Bay: Best Quintessentially San Franciscan Publisher.
